Ken and Rosemary visit Kingston...part 2

We went to the beach on Wednesday. The weather the week they were here was so unpredictable, it was crazy. It was supposed to be a hot day, but it turned out to be cool. So we didn't go in the water much. The kid's enjoyed playing in the Lalonde's kayaks though. It was a nice way to get on the water without getting IN the water.

At one point, Logan spotted his dad out in the water, and pointed at him. Logan is notorious for not going in the water. But he is also notorious for wanting to be wherever his dad is...so I guess Dad won this one. Tyler took him out to the dock and had him jump in with him. I think he thought it was all a good idea until he felt the water.

We had a picnic lunch and then we were pretty quick to head home.

We decided on watching AVATAR in the afternoon while Logan was sleeping because Logan had never seen it, and a BBQ dinner. It worked out great.

On Thursday I got an email for a major coupon at Old Navy, so we decided to go do some back-to-school shopping. Kid's close are cute...and expensive. Oy vey. And now my kids actually have an opinion on what they wear, so I can't just go in, grab a bunch of stuff, and pay. Now they have to peruse, and try stuff on, hem and haw. It takes much longer. Good thing I had 4 adults there.

After shopping, we went to A&W for a bite of lunch and discovered that it was their special promotion - buy a teen burger and one dollar goes to help support MS. They had some kid's games and face painting outside, so we decided that would be a fun way to end our lunch. Max got a spider and web on his arm, and Lucy went for the butterfly on the cheek.

That evening, Tyler and I went out to celebrate our anniversary that was coming up on Monday. Free babysitters! We weren't really hungry yet, so we decided to go shopping for a bit and we'd eat later. Haha. Later never happened. We shopped, and shopped, and shopped! I got new jeans (back to Old Navy) and then we checked out Pier One next door and loved being in there. Especially kid free! We found an awesome chair that we thought we'd put in our little nook by the front door. Bought it. Cushion too. Loved it. We went to a few other stores, including the Bombay Company, and bought a hall table there...also for the front hall. We also got a rug from Loews. We basically shopped until we dropped, and then headed home exhausted, with no dinner. We snacked on leftover spaghetti and watched The Mentalist, with my parents. We introduced them to the show while they were here and we watched an episode almost every night. I'm pretty sure I got them hooked!

On Friday we went down by the water again and toured around. My dad tripped at one point and twisted his ankle pretty good. It slowed our day down and we ended up heading back home. But not before stopping at the dollar store for butterfly nets. And a toy store to check things out. Max fell in love with a Marble set, and Lucy discovered Calico Critters and is begging for them. We'll see if the obsession lasts until Christmas. During the afternoon, my dad and Tyler rented a truck from Loews and picked up our new rug and chair that we purchased the night before and brought them home. We had plans to go to Wolff Island for dinner, (a ride on the ferry!), but my dad's ankle was hurting too much, so we slummed it at home. They were leaving the next day, so we wanted to squeeze in some more grandparent time.

On Saturday we thought about going to Wolff Island again, but my dad's ankle was still bugging him, so it was a no go. We decided to head to Lake Ontario Park to play. It's kind of like Bowness Park, but it's right on Lake Ontario (hence the name), and super awesome! We brought a lawn chair so my dad could sit and rest while we explored. On our way there we spotted a garage sale and happened to notice they had a Star Trek Trivia game set out. Tyler pulled a quick U-turn and purchased it, as well as Star Trek Scene It. Still in the plastic! We gave it to my dad and he laughed. We also go Balderdash. I love that game. When my dad heard there were books, he wanted to go back, so we quickly headed back and he got a book about Winston Churchill and we found a marble play-set for Max, similar to the one he had been playing with at the toy store the day before. When my dad asked how much the book was, the guy said, "A dollar...or less than a dollar." (nice, score!), My Dad: "Oh, it's worth more than that to me, so I'll give you $5 for it." Dad, you do not know how this works. So the guy threw the Marble set in for free. Nice touch.

Lake Ontario Park was probably one of our favourite trips, but we didn't bring the camera. We found seashells and cool rocks and skipped rocks in the water. There was even a fish skull. At one point Max got down to his underwear to go for a swim, and Tyler perched Lucy on a rock and told her to pose like she was Ariel. As we were taking pictures (with my mom's camera), Tyler slipped and jammed his ankle between two rocks. Nice. Two ankle injuries. So we headed back. A quick stop at McD's for some lunch and then it was back to the house so my parents could load up and head to the airport.

It was a tearful goodbye and a lonely house after they left. It's nice to have people around. Now it's back to routine and getting ready for school to start. Boring. We're going to squeeze some summer fun into this last week for sure. Come back soon!
