Tradition! Tradition!

It is a tradition to decorate some sort of Gingerbread creation sometime in the month of December. It's messy and haphazard, we never eat the finish product, it just sits for a few weeks and then we throw the rock-hard creation in the garbage (trying to explain to the children that it's ok and that these things can't be saved forever), and there is often a lot of stress trying to stop the kids from eating the candy that is intended for decorating. But it's tradition, so we keep doing it.

Last year, we decorated Santa sleighs. I believe the year before we did a house. This year, we decided to go for a whole village!

Logan was particularly interested in all the "gummies"
Lucy "just couldn't help herself" when it came to tasting each and every drop of icing that fell off the houses.
And Max tried REALLY hard to finish his dinner so he could join us. He made it in time to help with the last 3 houses.

One of the houses was so overloaded with icing and candies that the roof piece kept sliding off. We propped it up and by morning the icing had solidified enough to keep it in place. That is one well candied house.

So there you have our tiny village. We got icing EVERYWHERE and on EVERYONE, but it was a fun time. Let's hope mom is still awesome at laundry after this one.
