Today is an absolutely beautiful day. Seriously, I needed to get outside. Last night we met Dad at the train station and brought him home. It's been a long week, to say the least. Which has me feeling guilty, since it's also Mother's Day this week, but being a single-mom this week was tough. More so than usual. Not sure why...I'm just glad I'm done. And I'm also glad that Tyler and I arranged for a babysitter for today so we could go out on a date. More on that later. We stopped at the park after picking Tyler up and I realized that I had been at the park 3 times that day. In the morning with Logan, after school with all the kids (where Max played 'limbo' with his friends) and now that evening.
Max also gave me a 'tree star' which is the cutest thing ever.
But since we wanted to get outside today, we decided that something involving our bikes was in order. Well, it just so happens that Kingston was sponsoring a cool awareness event at the airport where you could bring your bike or scooter and ride on the runways. It was all to promote healthy living and getting active. It turned out to be an awesome event.
The kids loved the opportunity to ride their bikes on such a big open space. Plus the fact that there were planes nearby was awesome. They kept asking me what they should do if a plane was trying to take off and I reassured them that there wouldn't be any planes taking off while we were there. Well, apparently not. Just not on the runway we were using. But we did get a close up view of a few planes taking off and landing. Fortunately our airport isn't very busy, and they only bring in the small jets.
They had school buses out on the runway too that the kids could climb in and sit in. The whole event, I am convinced, was created to make Logan happy. Just yesterday as we walked home from the bus-stop after watching Max and Lucy climb aboard to go to school, Logan had a melt-down because he wanted to go to school too. It's so hard for him to wait. So the fact that he got to go on a real bus today, was perfect.
Next we headed over to another runway, where they had OBIE the mini-train doing laps around the runway giving kids rides. We were there for a LONG time. Not because the line-up was long, but because we rode that thing about 4 different times. Each of the kids got a chance to sit up front next to the engineer and blow the horn and ring the bell as the train drove around. Awesomeness.
After that, we went and saw Buster, the mini-bus. He was powered by a remote, that the kids could not see, so it looked like he was actually winking and responding to them. Logan, again, loved it.
Next we went and saw an Ambulance and a Police Car. The kids enjoyed getting in the back seat of the police car. I had them make their best 'bad-guy' face and told them that this was the ONLY time they were allowed to be in the back seat of a police car. They agreed, because it wasn't very comfortable. Hard plastic seats.
Next we headed to climb in and sit in the City Bus. Or "Daddy's Bus" as the kids call it. Again, Logan loved it.
Then it was a Fire Rescue Rhino
And then all over the inside of a fire truck.
And lastly the KRock Hummer
Pretty much awesome.
We left with promises to come back again next year.
Plus, on the way home, we saw the coolest motorcycle ever. A Hulk Bike.
Then it was home to put Logan down for a nap, for Tyler to play football with Max for a bit and then for Tyler and I to head out on our date to see "The Hunger Games!!" finally...and out for dinner. Seriously, it was awesome. Every time we go on a date I say, "we should do this more often". But we don't. But we should.
It was a completely awesome Saturday...as Saturdays should be.
