Affinity

Some may already know, and for those who don't, I have started up a business with my Sister-in-law, Ali. The company is called Affinity Designs and we are making hand-crafted jewelry at affordable prices. Our blog for the business is finally up and running and even has pictures...so go take a look. (aliandheather.blogspot.com). We're having a jewelry showcase tomorrow evening to sell some of the pieces we've made. You are welcome to host your own showcase where we will bring hundreds of handmade jewelry pieces for your friends and you to peruse and purchase. There are door prizes and hostess benefits as well. Check out the site by visiting the link on my blog-list. Any feedback is appreciated.

Another Blog Tag from Jake

I saw this on Jake's blog and although I'm not as clever, I'll give it a try

1. What are your middle names? Scott and Leanne.
2. How long have you been together? 10 years 9 months. married for 5 1/2 years.
3. Do you have any children together? Yes. We have 2.
4. What about pets? no...with no plans to get any animal that is higher maintenance than a goldfish.
5. Did you go to the same school? no, he grew up mostly in Cochrane, so we never crossed educational paths.
6. Are you from the same home town? Both born in Calgary, but he spent most of his life in Cochrane.
7. Do you live in the same town now? yes...isn't it kind of awkward if you don't?
8. Who is the smartest? Tyler's the smartest out of most people I've met...although he hasn't mastered the concept of cause and effect...for instance, he doesn't realize that when he mumbles from the couch while watching TV and using his laptop as I am frantically getting the kids ready to go somewhere, "you look frazzled", I will probably look up with 'not the nicest' of glares.
9. Who is the most sensitive? We both have a pretty equal handle on our senses, although his glasses prescription is stronger than mine, but he claims I'm going deaf. (It's just selective hearing)
10. Where is the first place you went to eat as a couple? Our first date was to Simon's, but we weren't really a couple then...I'd say we probably went to BP's or something.
11. Do you wear matching clothes? Never intentionally, but often.
12. Where is the farthest you have traveled as a couple? Does this mean without kids? We went to Lake Powell in Utah...that is about as far as we've gone.
13. Who has the craziest exes? Neither one of us has 'crazy' exes, but Tyler's siblings tell me that I'm the best girl he ever dated (thanks), so I'd say him...wait, not that my family thinks I've dated better guys then Tyler. Hmm.
14. Who has the worst temper? It depends on who got the most sleep, or whose sibling is bugging us.
15. Who does the cooking? Me...we like to eat more than foods that only require microwaving for 90 seconds.
16. Who's more social? Tyler
17. Who is the neat freak? I'm the one that cleans the house, but every once and a while Tyler can get freaky about cleaning...it lasts a few days and then leaves us again for months, only to show up when you least expect it. I think he gets weird bursts of domestic energy every once in a while.
18.Who is the most affectionate? Tyler
19. Who is the most stubborn? That's pretty equal, but I won't say me.
20. Who wakes up earlier? Usually me. My 'getting ready' process involves blow-drying my hair, so it makes sense for me to be up first, plus our hot water tank is small, so I like to ensure my shower has plenty.
21.Where was your first date? A little restaurant called Simon's with some friends. We went back to my friend's house after to play cards. Tyler was wearing a grey golf shirt and looked particularly handsome.
22.Who said I love you first? Me. It was pretty lame-o cheezy, but we were 17 so not much more can be expected. But now, Tyler's usually the first to say I love you.
23.How did you spend your 1st year anniversary? I don't remember, probably moving, because we always ended up moving in August. One-year rental agreements always seem to coincide with anniversaries.
24. Who has the bigger family? Tyler's family has bigger mouths, and according to Lucy recently, Grandma Janielee is getting 'old and chubby', but the Bourne's out number them.
25. Who is younger? Tyler
26. Who is the life of the party? It depends on the party.
27. Who do you hope your kids turn out more like? I'd say a fine balance. Tyler's really smart and has a lot of ambition and a really strong work-ethic, but I'm sweet, nice, polite and everything the Relief Society would hope me to be. Although my kids' table manners are more reflective of their dad, which is a disappointment.
28. Who wears the pants in the family? We both do. Tyler's are 'tough' jeans and mine are 'stretchy' yoga pants, but if we're speaking of who makes the rules, then I'm tough and Tyler is a bit more stretchy. Just like in a true democracy, we let 'the people' decide...and Lucy says mom's the boss.
29. Whats your favorite thing to do together? watch movies after the kids have gone to bed.
30. Do you have the same political views? Yes.
31. Who has the most stuff? Tyler. In all aspects. More shoes, more clothes, more books, more toys, more stuff, stuff, stuff!
32. Who controls the remote? that's a tough call in our house. Both of us want to control the remote, but neither one of us stoops to 'remote' fights, so it's an unspoken inner turmoil when the other has possession.
33. Who does the driving? Since we live in Cochrane we do a lot of driving to get anywhere. I'm definitely the driver most of the time, because Lucy and Max can't reach the peddles and stearing wheel at the same time, but if Tyler is with us, he usually drives.
34. Who takes out the garbage? me...although a remember some sort of promise at marriage that he would do garbage and I would do bathrooms...
35. Who does the cleaning? I do. House, cars, garbages, bathrooms, yards (stuff, stuff, stuff - see #31) and butts...but I let Tyler take care of his own.
36. Who does the laundry? I do.
37. Who is the funniest? Me, and I remind Tyler often.

Just Because

I'm posting, not because I have a lot to share these days, but just because this is the cutest and possibly the funniest picture I've ever seen. Max enjoys playing with Lucy...too much.
And what you can't see in the picture is that he's wearing a pink beaded bracelet and a gold ring on his finger as well.

Stereotype Complete

I entered a new phase of my 'mom' stereotype today. I've already been well-entrenched into the stereotype by wearing stretchy pants almost every day, driving a mini-van, and finding 'luxury' items at Walmart...but now, I am: The Soccer Mom. Lucy started U4 indoor soccer today and was so excited. Last Tuesday, we went to watch Auntie Sarah play a soccer game and Lucy came away from it saying, "I want to do that too!" We had always planned to get her involved in soccer, and so we made some phone calls and found out that the U4 indoor soccer season had already started, but she was welcome to join. Every Tuesday morning at 10:45 she joins 6 other kids at the Spray Lakes Sports center. We went out on Friday and picked up some shoes, shin-pads, socks, and shorts for her to use, as well as a cute pink bag to carry it all it. (All the other items were bought in neutral black and white, so her younger brother can use them in the future). When we got home, we got her dressed up in her gear and she practiced kicking the soccer ball around the living room. Tyler explained to her that she's not allowed to touch the ball with her hands, and she has taken that rule so seriously, that she won't even pick the ball up if it gets stuck somewhere. Every day since we signed her up she has asked, "Is it Tuesday yet?"
This morning, after some quick breakfast, we headed to Spray Lakes and got Lucy geared up. At first, there were 5 boys, and Lucy. But another little girl showed up partway through practice. Lucy's still at the age where she doesn't really care about boys verses girls (except when it comes to her dolls). The coach (Juliette) was very nice and welcomed Lucy and introduced her to the other kids. (Lucy is # 10)(In this picture, the coach told the kids to line up on the white line. All the other kids crowded together and Lucy kept her distance)
They played Simon Says, did some stretches, ran a few drills, which included learning to stop the ball with your foot, and then played a mini-game of 3 on 3. Lucy spent most of her time behind the pack, not because she doesn't know what she's doing, but because she's just not that good with confrontation. Max enjoyed watching, although he tried to sneak onto the floor a few times to join in. "A soccer too mom!" and a few times he yelled out, "Go Lucy!" They ended practice with a game of duck-duck-goose and then it was time to go. Lucy has been pretty much exhausted the rest of the day, but she keeps smiling. I'm looking forward to getting a bit of exercise in her. I brought my camera, not sure if that was allowed, until I saw all the other mom's pull theirs out too. We had fun, and I didn't even cry. (but I came close - I guess that completes the stereotype).

Fort Cochrane

With the warm weather that has blown into our area, Tyler and the kids decided to take advantage yesterday and spend some time outside. Our house is situated just perfectly that whenever the wind blows hard (and it does this quite often) it creates a shelf right along the edge of our house. Tyler shoveled out some of the snow and created a nice little hide-away for himself....oh yeah, and the kids too. Lucy and dad had fun going out to feed the sheep while Max was sleeping and they found a deer antler in the hay pile. Max joined them quickly outside to complete the fort and enjoy some time inside it. Earlier that day, the kids got out some fabric and started playing dress-up. Lucy's favorite thing to dress up as is a princess because, according to her, she knows everything about princesses. And Max's favorite thing to do is whatever Lucy is doing, so he usually ends up dressing up like a princess as well. Lucy held up her skirt with pinky fingers pointed because 'that's how princesses do it'. When asked how she knows so much about what princesses do she said, "I just think about Cinderella and do whatever she would do." Pretty logical. I took a few pictures of my two princess and now I am posting them on the world-wide-web, something I'm sure Max will appreciate in his future.

The Latest

(Max after a blue ring pop.)

(Lucy with a baby stuffed up her shirt)
So, with Christmas and New Years being over, there hasn't been much to write about lately. I've still been taking pictures as much as possible, because I'm a big believer in pictures, but there hasn't been much to report. I thought I'd give a quick update as to what we've been up to in the past week, although it's not terribly exciting to those outside of these 4 (tin) walls. Although terribly exciting doesn't sound that great to me. The kids have been entertaining themselves with their new toys, and enjoying some of the old ones too. Here they are eating pizza pockets and wearing the crowns their Aunti Ali made for them a while back. They were so cute I had to take a picture. We also pulled the aqua-doodle out that they got from Santa and they have had a blast playing with that. The inventor is a genius, I've gotta say. It's fun, and absolutely no mess. Love that.Tyler's been busy with work and Young Men's and I've been keeping busy with jewelry, kids, and primary stuff. We had all our new little sunbeams move up into primary on the 4th, which included Lucy. I feel spoiled to be able to be in there watching her first experiences with primary. She was so excited that morning to go to Sunbeams that she woke up early to get ready, picked out her favorite dress, got her scripture case and scriptures (that she got from Gma Bourne for Christmas) and was ready to go. Her little brother was sick, so Dad had to stay home, but Mom and Lucy had a great time in primary. When it was all over, I asked her what she thought and she told me, "Mom, I spent all the time in primary, and we didn't even open our scriptures once!" I'll have to rectify that disappointment. It's fun planning sharing time week to week with her in mind now.
I guess the only other news is the story of 'the finger'. As I was chopping lettuce for dinner tonight and listening to Tyler tell me about his day, I made the mistake of looking up at him for one moment, and as I looked back down I could see my impressively sharp knife heading straight for my finger, but not in enough time for me to do anything to stop it. Ouch. I immediately ran it to the sink and soaked and squeezed it, and was surprised by how much it didn't hurt...for about 45 seconds, and then it waved in. I got a bit light-headed (especially when Tyler got light-headed at the sight of blood) and had to steady myself on the floor. Wrapped it in gauze, called Sarah to watch the kids, headed to the church with Tyler so he could set up his activity, and then drove to the walk-in clinic in Cochrane. It turns out it didn't need stitches, so my 28-year streak still holds true. They fixed it up with some skin glue (stings like nothing else) and some bandaids. It throbs, but isn't too bad. That was terribly exciting enough for one night, and it's difficult to type without an index finger, so I'll end there. Here's my bandaged finger and the knife that did it...

Return of the Bog

On December 30th, we decided to hit up Zoo-lights at the Calgary zoo before it closed on January 3rd. We knew it was a pretty cold day, but we didn't want our kids to miss the experience. We headed to mom and dad's house to link up with Mike and Tammy, and after their home teachers paid a quick visit we all piled into our vehicles and headed to the zoo. We only had about 45 minutes to view everything before the zoo closed, but it proved to be the perfect amount of time. The announcement over the PA system that the zoo was closing came only moments before Lucy and Emma told us they were cold and ready to go home. We walked through the park and saw a lot of really great displays. The kids enjoyed touching some of the light displays and cozying up by the fire-pits they had dispersed throughout the park. I was impressed with the snow leopard display and took pictures all around the park, but it didn't really do justice. Lucy was very excited the entire time to head to the "Tunnel of Love". We took a few pictures there and by about this time we were ready to head home. Mike and Tammy had parked at a separate entrance than us, so we parted ways at the tunnel and went to our vehicles. The kids were cold and tired by the time we were done, but it was a pretty cool experience. Next year we'll definitely time it better and go on a day that's not so cold. We were surprised by how busy the park was despite the weather, but I guess a few more people were in the same predicament as us.
On New Years Eve we were back at my parents house for the day. Lucy and Tyler went tobogganing with Mike and Emma, as well as Cheryl, Dave, Braysen and Sadie Walker, while Tammy and I stayed back at the house to watch over the little ones (Ashley, Max and Gracie). They had a few mishaps, but the kids still enjoyed themselves. (I'm sure the major mishaps are already blogged on Dave and Cheryl's site). We came back to the house and played awhile and then headed out for dinner with Tyler's family to celebrate his Grandma's 80th birthday. Then everyone (Williamson and Bourne families inclusive) were back at Bourne's to watch the Hockey game and play games. We left around 11pm and had our kids into bed as quickly as possible. Tyler wished me a Happy New Year as we left my parent's house and I commented that he was early. He said, "You'll probably be asleep before midnight anyway." I tried my hardest, but he was right...as I cuddled Max to sleep I fell asleep in the rocking chair in his room for 20 minutes and woke up at 12:03am. It's been pretty quiet around here since then as the holidays have come to a close. Last night as Lucy went to bed, we told her that Christmas Holidays were over and dad would be going back to work in the morning. She got upset and said she wished Christmas Holidays never had to end...I agree, but it felt good to get back to laundry and cleaning the house today after our long winter's nap.
